Absentee Voting Information

The online application is NOT available during odd year elections. Please return this paper application by mail or scan/email.

During even numbered years, absentee ballots are available 45 days prior to the State Primary and State General Elections.  A completed and signed absentee ballot application must be received before a ballot can be issued to a voter.  Absentee ballots must be returned to the county auditor no later than 8:00pm on Election Day in order to be counted. (Contact your local school/city/township for stand-alone special elections or elections held during odd numbered years)

To apply and vote in person during even year State Primary/General Elections, the Douglas County Auditor’s Office is located in the basement level of the Douglas County Administration Building located on the corner of 9th Ave and Cedar Street in Alexandria.  Main Entrance and parking lot are found on the West side of the building.

Absentee Voting Hours:

8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday
8:00 am - 7:00 pm Tuesday ( one week before November State General Election)
9:00 am - 3:00 pm Saturday Prior to Presidential Primary and August MN State Primary
9:00 am - 3:00 pm Two Saturdays Pr
ior to November General Election
9:00 am - 3:00 pm Sunday Prior to November General Election
8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday Prior to Primary or General Election

To apply and vote by mail, during even year State Primary/General Elections only, you may contact the Douglas County Auditor’s Office at the phone number located at the bottom of this page if you want an absentee ballot application mailed to you.  An absentee ballot application can also be obtained online at “mnvotes.gov” or you may submit your own written request as long as it contains the following required information:

  • Voter’s name and residential address;
  • The address where the ballot should be sent;
  • The election(s) for which the request is made;
  • The voter’s date of birth and at least one of the following:
    • The voter’s MN driver’s license number;
    • MN state ID number
    • The last four digits of the voter’s Social Security number; or
    • A statement that the voter does not have any of these;
  • Oath stating that the information contained on the form is accurate, that the voter is applying on their own behalf, and that the voter is signing the oath under penalty of perjury;
  • Voter’s own signature; and
  • The date the voter signed the application.
