The Douglas County Commissioners held a brief meeting on Tuesday, February 17. The meeting occurred before a closed session to evaluate the performance of all non-elected department heads. This is an annual performance review.
Public Works
The first items of business at the regular meeting came from Public Works. Commissioners approved a bid from Sign Solutions USA for road sign work in the county in 2026. They awarded a final payment to Joe Riley Construction for work on County State Aid Highway 46 out near Viking Plaza. Commissioner Charlie Meyer asked that the contractor repair the grassy areas seeded last fall that has, he said, turned into mud. Public Works Director Tim Erickson assured him that work will be completed. Commissioners also approved a grant application for a powered riding brush mower to maintain trails in the county. The Big Ole Bike Club will pay the 25 percent match if the grant is awarded. Park Superintendent Brad Bonk said the mower will be operated and maintained by county employees.
Land and Resource Management
Land and Resource Management Director Dave Rush asked commissioners to approve a final plat for Arrowwood Resort. The resort plans to sell new and existing cottage and townhome units to individual investors or investor groups. The units will be subdivided from the resort property but will remain as part of the resort’s commercial rental pool. This business model is used at other resorts in the area. Commissioners approved the request.
Finance
Finance Director Jill Frisell asked the board to carry over $60,000 of funds in the Emergency Management Department to be put toward a storm shelter at Chippewa Park.
The next board meeting is March 3 at 9 a.m. at the Douglas County Administration Building 821 Cedar Street in Alexandria.
