Vice Chair Jeff Way presided over the November 3 Douglas County Board meeting.

Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Troy Wolbersen was first on the agenda with a request for the county to accept a $500 anonymous donation for the sheriff’s honor guard.

Library

The board approved Library Board member Ellen Kappmeyer for a second 3-year term.

Public Works

Commissioners approved the low bid from Redstone Construction, LLC for work to improve the water passageway from Lake Geneva to Lake Le Homme Dieu. County Engineer Tim Erickson explained even the low bid was higher than the engineer’s estimate and would exceed the state funds secured for this project. Erickson shared he will meet with state Representative Mary Franson and others to inquire about additional funding sources.

The board also approved the low bidder, Bolton Menk, for design work on the County State Aid Highway (CSAH) interchange project and final payment for the CSAH 40 paving done by Central Specialties this summer. Erickson said Central Specialties did a very good job.

Land and Resource Management

Land and Resource Management Director Dave Rush asked the board to approve the final plat for Brandts Beach Second Addition, which is a 10-lot project on the southwest side of Lobster Lake in Moe Township. There is no lake access. Conditions for the final plat include proper handling of stormwater runoff.

Opioid Grant Contracts

Commissioners approved two applications for funds from the Opioid Grant the county receives from a nationwide settlement designed to reduce the use of and impact from opioids.

The Alexandria Clinic will receive $8,000 under a one-year contract and Unity Recovery will receive $20,000 over two years.

HRA Appointment

Commissioners also approved Courtney Smith to serve as the District One representative on the county Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board.

The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17 at 821 Cedar Street in Alexandria.
