Volunteers who love lakes are needed Saturday, August 9, to help search for starry stonewort, an aquatic invasive algae, that can spread easily and form dense mats in lakes.
Each August volunteers are asked to meet at the Douglas County Public Works at 526 Willow Drive to assist with this statewide effort. No experience or equipment is needed to participate in the event called Starry Trek. Training will be provided on-site.
“We’re pleased to be partnering with the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center again for this event,” said Justin Swart, AIS Specialist, Douglas County.
“Preserving our lakes for future generations is crucial, and we are committed to doing everything possible to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS).”
Participants are asked to register in advance for the event which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1p.m. Go to starrytrek.org to complete the form.
