Case Number: 26000634
Date Reported: 1/18/2026 at 1054 hours
Incident: Water Complaint
Location: Tolena Point, Lake Le Homme Dieu
Case Details:
On 1/18/26 at 1054 hours Deputies were dispatched to a report of a truck with the front end through the ice in the channel near Tolena point on Lake Le Homme Dieu. Deputies responded and spoke with a male who stated he was traveling through the channel on his side by side when he broke through. This was located in the middle of the channnel near a pressure ridge.
The driver was able to exit the side by side and contacted a friend to help him tow the side by side out. There were no injuries reported and the side by side was removed from the lake. The open water has been marked with thin ice signs.
The Sheriff's Office would like to remind everyone to always use caution when on the ice. Ice is still unsafe in many areas. You should let someone know where you are going and always check the condition of the ice. The Douglas County Sheiffs Office was assisted by the Minnesota DNR.
Officer: Deputy Logan Waldvogel, #210
