On 11/23/2025 at 0957 hours, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a capsized boat with two duck hunters in the water on the north side of Lake Alvin. A Conservation Officer with the Minnesota DNR and Douglas County Deputies responded to locate and rescue the two hunters. Deputies located the first hunter, identified as Ashten Buseman on the Arrowwood Resort Golf Course. He informed deputies that his friend, Ty Weller, was still in the water near the capsized boat. The Conservation Officer with the Minnesota DNR and Douglas County Deputies utilized a DNR shallow water boat to locate and rescue Ty at 1011 hrs. Ashten and Ty received medical attention by North Ambulance on scene and did not need to be transported to the ER. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office launched an air boat to recover the remaining hunting and boating equipment.
This is the second time in a year that MN DNR and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have rescued duck hunters from a significantly overloaded boat while in cold water. Please use caution while doing outdoor recreational activities and use proper safety equipment.
